Choosing a place to live

We strongly advocate living in a place you love! A place that makes you feel good, energises you and opens opportunities for you. Simply, a place you feel at home. It needs some effort to move there, but by all means it is worth of it! Just think about it and… give it a try! :-)

For us such a place is Tyrol with its mountains and splendid panoramas. For someone else it could be a quite different location ;-) .

The whole process could be divided into few steps:

  1. Find out where you would like to live. Some people like big cities, others like small villages, some like the nature others rather urban areas. If you enjoy surfing then some place close to the water could be your choice. If you enjoy skiing – go to the mountains. If the surroundings does not really matters, and you would like to make a great career – probably a big city is a better choice than a small village.

Our “starting point” was that we love spending time in the mountains. Back then we spent 90% of our holiday time in the Tatras, Alps or in the Dolomites. One day we came to a conclusion that it does not make sense to enjoy what we love only once or twice a year and we have to either change the hobby or move closer to the mountains. So we started searching. We were looking for a small/medium size cities (to have a job) close to the mountains. Finally we found some ‘candidates’ :-)

  2. Find out more about the chosen place. Do some homework before making any steps to move there. Is it in the same country? Do you need any paperwork (visa, permits, etc.). How about language? How can you support yourself there? Job market? How it is to live there? What is the climate throughout the year? Is it a good place to do your hobbies? You can find answers to most of these questions in the Internet, contacting some local tourist information office, etc.

We did some inquiry on that place, contacting the city, in the Internet and started looking for job opportunities there. All that took some time, but finally we knew that this is the place we want to live. :-)

  3. Do it!. Once you are sure “that’s it!” – just do it! And don’t look back :-) If you make the right choice – you will feel great, and the quality of your life should get better. If you overlooked something and the place does not seem to be so attractive as you initially had though – there is still a benefit. You got invaluable experience which will make the next move a way easier.

Fortunately it was possible to find an employer, overcome all formalities (visa, work permit, etc.) and move there. Well, at the beginning it was not easy, but we could enjoy hiking, climbing, mountain biking, skiing every weekend. These activities replenish our energy and help to overcome all the obstacles on our way. And looking back it was definitely one of the best decisions of our lives. :-)
